Patterns and prose are designed in Adobe Illustrator and then laser cut out of 3/8” clear plexi. The cut plexi is then glued down to styrene (in reverse | image left) to make the printing plate. The un-inked printing plate is then passed through an etching press to create the blind embossing (image right). The size of this particular plate is 42” height x 30” width.

Original printed decorative papers are used on the sides of the frame’s structure to compliment the insect paintings. The papers are made from multiple, shear layers of Akua Liquid Pigment printed onto kozo paper using the relief printmaking method. The decorative paper shown here (image right) was made from left over laser cut pieces (image left).

the illusion of TRUTH on view
November 1 - December 10, 2016

Politics is the illusion of Truth.

The politician’s persuasive pitch, their extravagant ballyhoo,

always assuring us that they’re “talking truth...this truth.”

They claim to have the ability to save our government,

“And now, I bring you this miraculous cure!”

There are no personal saviors.

Like the elusive, evasive rainbow,

always tantalizingly one step ahead of us,

their promise appears to never be within our reach.

I desire a collective unity within our government that benefits all of humanity.

A government that is run by the best men and the best women for the job,

not a separation in political parties.

PRESS RELEASE | PD Packard's New Video | Workshop
Printing Decorative Papers with Akua Inks

Artist, PD Packard (left), Video Director, Christine Puma (middle), and Artist + Akua Inks Inventor, Susan Rostow (left). Photo Credit: Faye Arranz

To view new VIDEO:

Artist PD Packard takes you through the making of her Printed Decorative Papers using Akua Inks. Her "commitment to color", as she describes, inspires the layering of the decorative patterns she creates using dried leaves that she's collected. Packard emphasizes the importance of devising a "color story", selecting several colors to be used in each printed element. The Akua Liquid Pigment Inks allow her to print almost unlimited layers of sheer color that are tied together with a final layer of Akua Intaglio, creating patterns that appear indefinitely complex. Once her printed papers are created, she applies the prints to larger, sculptural works that are addressed in this video.

Interested in taking a workshop with PD Packard to learn this process?

PD Packard will be teaching a workhop on | Printed Decorative Papers + Box Art

Discover unlimited color by creating multilayered patterns on Japanese kozo paper with Akua Liquid Pigments during this two-day workshop. Participants will begin the workshop creating printed decorative papers that will then be used to cover their own hand made boxes.

Open to all levels, participants will be taught hands-on demonstration for the decorative printmaking technique and the basic box structure. Students are welcome to bring their own bookbinding tools.
