The brillant New York based printmaker, Peter Freleng, came to my studio to teach and enlighten me about the benefits of using the printmaking method, Solarplate Etching, in my work.

To properly expose the plates, Peter brought a light box unit that was built by the pioneer of solarplate etching, Dan Welden, with whom Peter has worked with since he was 15 years old.

 Arts Day Festival
PS261 Boerum Hill Brooklyn
February 1, 2013

Itajime Shibori Workshop
I taught Catherine Pacilio's amazing 5th grade class!

Here's a really fun video from last years festival by the dynamic duo
Gale Mayron & Seth King:

This year I Co-Chaired the Arts Day Festival with Kendra Foley and with
much generous help by members Ellen Levine, Rick Knutsen, Cena Crane, Ellen Neises,
Claire James, John Payne, Thomas Seltzer, and the PS261 art teachers
Haya Moline and Tanya Stanger.

The Arts Day is an annual festival at PS261 organized by members of the
PTA Arts Committee in collaboration with teachers, parents, students and the
community. On Arts Day, regular classes are suspended to celebrate the creativity
of the teachers and students who make the PS261 school life rich in art.

The second annual Arts Day, held on February 1st, brought over 50 artists into
the school for a day of visual art, theater, dance, design and music. Thanks
to all the artists that offered their talents, every class in the school
participated in a hands-on workshop, a performance in the auditorium,
and school wide art projects.

Photos that I took of other workshops & assemblies during the second annual
Arts Day, February 1, 2013 can be seen here:

Maine August 2012
Last March, I won a bid on a week vacation for my family in Maine at the PTA's spring auction for my twin daughter's elementary school in the Boerum Hill neighborhood of Brooklyn. In Maine, many days began with rain so we spent the mornings painting on the covered porch. By afternoon the sky opened up to a clear, bright blue and the sun. Bug eaten wild Black Eyed Susan flowers grew in abundance everywhere.
